LIVERPOOL RESTAURANT IL FORNO AWARDED GOLD FOR ‘EXCEPTIONAL STANDARDS’
The Pizza, Pasta & Italian Food Association has presented Liverpool restaurant Il Forno with a gold award in recognition of their exceptional standards.
Managing partner Vince Margiotta and his team were the only restaurant in the north of England to receive the accolade at a prestigious ceremony at the Royal Lancaster Hotel, in London, earlier this month.
Chef Vito, who was crowned the ‘Winner of the International Pizza Making Championship 2007’ back in July, dazzled the judges with two specially created pizzas that were topped with the finest ingredients from the UK and Italy.
Vince said: “Everyone at the restaurant is incredibly proud of Vito. We’ve known for a long time that he makes the best pizzas but these awards have now proved it to the rest of the world!
“At Il Forno we believe in providing delicious food using the highest quality ingredients but we also strive to be creative offering an exciting menu. Competing in these contests encourages our chefs to be even more experimental with different tastes and textures.”
The awards, which were attended by leading figures from the pizza, pasta and Italian food industry, are now in their 19th year.
Papa director Jim Winship said: “A lot of high quality Italian food is available in the UK today, and our annual awards commend restaurants, retailers and manufacturers that make a real commitment to excellence.”
It has been a very successful 12 months for Il Forno who were named one of the top 10 Italian restaurants in the UK by Antonio Carluccio, given 17 out of 20 in a flattering review from Taste Italia and hailed one of the UK's Top 10 authentic Italian restaurants by The Times newspaper.
